Tauros drop Game 2 to Bruins
AUSTIN, Minn. - The Minot Minotauros didn't have another eight goals in their tank Saturday and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Austin Bruins on Saturday in Game 2 of the North American Hockey League playoff series.
Austin's Drew Anderson scored 1:17 into the game with Niko Hildenbrand and Luke Dietsch notching assists.
The Tauros never led, but a goal by Jake McCann at 16:54 of the first period tied the game 1-1 after 20 minutes. The Bruins held a 9-7 shot advantage in the first and widened the margin over the final two frames, ending with a 33-14 edge.
Jay Dickman netted the game-winner with 2:23 left in the second period to tie the best-of-five series at one game apiece as it shifts to Minot for Game's 3 and 4.
Minot couldn't find the equalizer in the third, being held to just two shots in the final 20 minutes.
The teams play Game 3 on Friday at 7:35 p.m. at Maysa Arena.
O'Keefe leads field, Beavers fourth
COLUMBIS, Neb. - For the second straight tournament, Minot State junior Kowan O'Keefe has a first-round lead, this time at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite on Saturday at Quail Run Golf Course.
The tournament was moved to Columbus, Neb., due to poor course conditions in Iowa and a secondary site in Wayne, Neb.
O'Keefe shot a 2-under 70 and leads St. Cloud State's Charlie West by a stroke entering today's final round, which begins at 9 a.m.
O'Keefe's brother, Karson, carded a 5-over 77 and is tied for 10th among a field of 56. Karson O'Keefe, a redshirt freshman, didn't play in MSU's spring opener last weekend.
"It was nice to have Karson back in the lineup," MSU coach Randy Westby said in a press release. "Kowan is again in the hunt as he leads by one with a good round of (minus)-2. We need to have some better play from our other three in order to move up. We are looking for Kowan to hold on to the lead and have the others make a push in the final round."
The Beavers shot a collective 308 and sit in fourth place, one shot behind Minnesota Crookston, two back of Concordia-St. Paul and just five off leader SCSU.
