Richard K. Jorgenson, 84, of Leeds, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando.

Richard Kenneth Jorgenson was born to George and Magnil (Medhus) Jorgenson on Nov. 30, 1929, on the family farm near Leeds. He was raised there, attended rural school and graduated in 1947 from Leeds High School. Richard furthered his education at NDSU in Fargo and also attended college in St. Paul, Minn., graduating in 1950. He returned home and farmed with his father, later assuming the operation of the family farm.

Richard and Lois Carlson were married Nov. 25, 1967, at Kenmare. She died Dec. 16, 1994. Richard later married Darlene Schapp on July 30, 1997, at Jamestown.

Richard was baptized, confirmed and remained a lifelong member of North Prairie Free Lutheran Church, serving on its board as a deacon, and was a member of the Gideons. He had also served on the Farmers Co-Op Elevator and Leeds Township boards.

Grateful for having shared in his life are: his wife, Darlene, of Cando; a daughter and son-in-law, Janel and Jody McGarvey, and a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Chris Jorgenson, all of Leeds; seven grandchildren, Shelby, Ricky, Cody and Caleb Jorgenson, Julissa, Jarrel and Jarrick McGarvey; two sisters, Betty (Pete) Thoreson, of Mayville, and Inez (Keith) Jacobson, of Rochester, Minn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; parents; and two sisters, Ardis Oppegard and Ione Jorgenson.

Funeral services: Friday, April 4, 2014, at 2 p.m., at North Prairie Free Lutheran Church, rural Leeds.

Burial: Church cemetery, later in the spring.

Visitation: Today, April 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

Prayer service and time of sharing: Today at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
