Wayne Schimke, 70, Hurdsfield, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 4, at the Mennonite Brethren Church, Harvey. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, from 2 to 7 p.m., with prayer services at 7 p.m., at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.
Wayne David Schimke was born Feb. 16, 1944, to Herbert and Elfrieda (Winter) Schimke, in Harvey. He grew up on the family farm south of Harvey. Wayne attended country school in Crystal Lake Township through grade school then finished out his high school years in Harvey. Wayne began farming on the family farm south of Harvey after high school.
He married Diane Eckman, of Hurdsfield, on June 7, 1970, in Sykeston. Together they had three children and continued to live and work on the family farm.
Wayne was a life-long farmer and rancher and his love and care of the land was overshadowed only by his love and care for his family.
Wayne was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Harvey.
Wayne is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Diane; daughter, Kristi (Rich) Buckley, of West Fargo; son, Kelly (Melissa), of Hurdsfield; son, Kerry, of West Fargo; his five grandchildren, Kayla Buckley and Tyler, Tristin, Trace, and Trynity Schimke; his three brothers, Norman (Glory) Schimke, of Harvey, Arnold (Jan) Schimke, of Bismarck, Howard (Doris) Schimke, of Wisconsin; sister, Phyllis Hove, of Bismarck; and mother-in-law, Lena Eckman, of Harvey; brother-in-law, Duane (Sandra) Eckman, of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Lawrence Eckman; and brother-in-law, Lewis Hove.
