Larry Torgerson

Larry Torgerson, 76, Bismarck, died March 29, 2014, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND.

Larry was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Rugby, the son of Albert and Ernestine (Brandt) Torgerson. He attended Rugby High School where he graduated in 1955. After high school, Larry served in the U.S. Army and National Guard during the Berlin Crisis, until 1962.

He married Carol Thingvold on May 15, 1960, in Rugby, and they made their home there until they moved to Tuttle in 1961. While in Tuttle, Larry was the manager of the grain elevator. In 1966, Larry and Carol moved to Jamestown, where Larry was a salesman for Dakota Salt. They moved to Michigan for a short time, before moving to Buchanan. Larry worked for various lumber supply companies. In 1986, Larry and Carol moved to Dickinson and bought the Nodak Motel. In 2005, Larry retired and they sold the motel. Since 2011, the couple has resided in Bismarck.

Larry enjoyed picking up grandkids from school and attending their activities. He also spent several days of the week meeting friends for coffee. Larry will be remembered for his numerous stories and his great sense of humor, never failing to put a smile on your face. We will all miss his daily phone calls.

Larry is survived by: his wife, Carol, Bismarck; son, Dwight (Colleen), Buchanan; three daughters, Deb (Cory) Halter, Julie (Doug) Magnus and Gail Carlson (Troy Fleck), all of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his brother, Terry.

Services: will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Burial: will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation: will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
