Deloris Marie Johnson, 78, Minot, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna, Minn. She was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in May of 2012. Although she endured many challenges with her illness, she maintained a sense of humor along with a positive attitude.

Deloris Marie Norgard was born Jan. 3, 1936, to Orvel and Olga (Thompson) Norgard, in Bruce, S.D. She remained in Bruce until the age of 6, when her family relocated to Hartland, N.D. She was raised and attended school in Hartland. Her high school years were completed at Berthold High School, where she graduated in the class of 1954.

Following high school, Deloris attended Minot Business College. Her years of working for George Van Eckhout Farm Equipment as an accountant were memorable years. Deloris enjoyed the world of business and in 1958, became an employee at Sweetheart Bakery. She married Robert Johnson on July 21, 1959. They were married 51 years.

Deloris was a devoted wife and mother to her family. Her days as a stay-at-home mom were filled with baking, sewing, quilting and enjoying her children and their friends. Music was very much a part of her life, her mother being a pianist. It was not unusual on an evening or holiday for the neighbors to gather with their instruments at the house for a night of music and laughter. Deloris loved playing her clavinova, accordion, and listening to records on the stereo. She and Robert liked to have fun. They loved to dance and enjoyed attending festivals in the park, as well and the brass band concerts at Minot State University. The Norsk Hostfest event was never missed.

She and her family loved camping with friends at Lake Sakakawea and in Canada. Deloris and her husband enjoyed many travels taking them to 46 different states, including Hawaii. In 1998, she and her daughter traveled to Europe and saw seven different countries.

Deloris truly had a heart for service and compassion. After her children were raised she returned to college. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1988 from Trinity School of Nursing in Minot. Her nursing career was fulfilled caring for the many residents at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot.

Deloris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where she participated in church activities, serving as an altar guild and helping at the lutefisk dinners.

Surviving family includes: children, Denise Johnson, Rochester, Minn., and Wayne Johnson, Minot; niece, Rose Dukes, Columbia, S.C.; and several cousins.
