SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Gordon E. Danielson, 99, died Friday, March 21, 2014, in the Allen Wing of Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 24, 2014, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, at 10 a.m., with burial in Minot at a later date.

Gordon was born to Oscar and Vera (McGoon) Danielson in Fargo on Oct. 10, 1914. Gordon graduated from Minot High School in 1932 and attended Minot State College from 1933 to 1934. Gordon spent the majority of his work life as a brakeman and later as a conductor for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern railroads, completing 39 years of service from 1939-1979.

He married Myla E. Torgerson in Colfax, Wis., on April 17, 1938, and they had 68 years of marriage before her death on June 6, 2006.

Gordon was drafted into the Army on May 29, 1944, and was discharged during April 1946 as a sergeant. He spent 14 months in the Philippine Islands with the 749th Railway Division.

Gordon was a member of First Lutheran Church of Minot. He was also a member of the Masons, Shrine, American Legion, and was a life member of the Minot Elks Lodge and the Railroad Museum Association. For many years Gordon participated as a member of the Minot Kem Temple Shrine Merrymen as a clown in many North Dakota parades and events.

Survivors include: a daughter, Nancy Espy-Martin (Roman), Sun Lakes, Ariz.; sons, Peter (Rogene) Danielson, Okoboji, Iowa, David (Betsy) Danielson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Bette Miller, San Francisco, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myla; and his sisters, Dorothy Surles and Marge Enger.

Memorials: May be sent to the Shriners Children's Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.
