On March 13, the Bishop Ryan girls basketball team played a worthy opponent in the T-G-U Titans for the Region 6 championship. The game played by our girls was representative of Bishop Ryan Catholic School. They played well and with great poise.
However, a few of our students began to "storm the court" before the final buzzer went off. The clock was stopped with 1.3 seconds remaining. This behavior was entirely unacceptable and a poor representation of the Bishop Ryan Catholic School mission and identity. Undoubtedly, it is good to see healthy school spirit on both sides of the ball during an athletic event. To our regret, the good play and accomplishments of both teams were overshadowed by the lack of judgment of our students.
On behalf of Bishop Ryan Catholic School, we would like to apologize to T-G-U players, coaches, parents, and the NDHSAA tournament directors for the behavior of these few students. We will do what is necessary to ensure that this doesn't happen in the future.
