Lottery signup will be held next week for leases on the first eight units opening in May in a southeast Minot affordable housing complex.
The Minot Housing Authority will take applications for new units at Washington Townhomes starting Monday in its office at 108 Burdick Expy. E. The application period ends Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m.
Washington Townhomes, developed by Beyond Shelter on 18th Avenue Southeast, completed its first 32 units last summer. Another 32 units will be completed this year.
Builders work on the new units to Washington Townhomes Wednesday. The units will start becoming available for lease in May.
Mark Austin, occupancy director with the housing authority, said the authority expects to receive the first eight units for leasing on May 1. Additional buildings with eight units each will become available about every six weeks.
Applicants who register next week will be entered in the lottery for the first two eight-unit buildings. People need to provide their incomes on the applications but do not initially need to show documentation. If selected in the lottery, applicants will be contacted for interviews and will need to verify income to continue through the selection process. To be eligible, applicants must have a household income at or below 60 percent of the federal poverty level.
Available units include two-, three- and four-bedroom units, each with two baths. This round of the lottery includes one-bath, handicapped-accessible units. Each unit comes with its own entryway, backyard patio and vehicular garage.
Rents will range from $398 to $930 a month, depending on income and unit size. Rent covers all utilities except electricity.
