Raymond ‘Ray’ Christenson

Raymond Christenson, 90, Plaza, passed into the arms of God on March 12, 2014, at home surrounded by his wife and family. His funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m., today, March 15, 2013, at Lucky Mound Lutheran Church, rural Parshall. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation was Friday, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall, which was followed by a family service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the church today.

Ray was born March 27, 1923, to Lars and Minnie (Larson) Christenson. He attended Mountrail Consolidated School and graduated from Plaza High School in 1940.

He married Marvel Huus (Schenfisch) on June 11, 1962, at Lucky Mound Lutheran Church. They settled in the Plaza area and raised their five children.

Ray was a lifelong member of Lucky Mound Lutheran Church and served as a council member. He served on the boards of Makoti Farmers Elevator, Plaza Farmers Union Oil Co-op and was Mountrail Township assessor for many years. He loved to farm and looked forward to driving combine each fall including this past harvest. He instilled his love of fishing, hunting, and many other outdoor hobbies in his children and grandchildren. Ray was a small aircraft pilot and was proud to be a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.

Ray is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Marvel; sons, Robert (Elizabeth) Huus, of Makoti, James (Lori) Huus, of Parshall, Roger (Kari) Christenson, of Plaza; daughters, Janis (James) Keller, of Fargo, Julie (Dan) Altenbernd, of Moorhead, Minn.; grandchildren, Denise (Jason) Diffely, Chris Huus, Stephanie Huus, Rachel Huus, Brooke (Shane) Locken, Dustin (Larissa Spotted Horse) Huus, Madison (Brent) Lende, Regan Christenson, Lincoln Christenson, Aaron Keller, Tim Keller, Valerie Keller, Jayci Altenbernd, Zoe Altenbernd, Raymond Altenbernd; great-grandchildren, Kia, Dylan and Easton Locken; Brady and Alyanna Huus; and Grayson Diffely.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence; and sisters, Geneva Lorvig and Edna Christenson.
