John D. Larson, 81, Kenmare, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Kenmare hospital.
John was born on April 15, 1932, in Minot, the son of Charlie and Helga Larson. He was raised in Minot and Kenmare, graduating from Kenmare High School in 1950. John attended school in Minneapolis to become a telegrapher and worked 19 years for the Soo Line Railroad.
He was united in marriage to Joan Weber on Oct. 18, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Underwood. He was employed at Peterson Chevrolet and later Harris Motors as a parts man. John retired in 1989 and then enjoyed helping during spring and fall's work on Jim Hansen's farm.
He enjoyed gardening and was proud of his tomatoes. John was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, and served on the church council.
John is survived by: his wife, Joan Larson, Kenmare; sons, Tim (Judy) Larson, Turtle Lake, and Keith Larson, Kenmare; daughters, Cathy (Dave) McDermott, Minot, and Diane (Steve) Rinell, Cooperstown, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Justin McDermott, Sarah (Marc) Fremming, Jacob Larson, Megan Larson, Blake Rinell and Scott (Brittany) Rinell; and two great-grandchildren, Sidney Larson and Avery Fremming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adele Broadston; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service: Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.
Visitation will be Monday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
