GRAND FORKS - An upset over No. 1 Rugby would have been preferable for New Town senior Joe Baker, but starring on SportsCenter's Top 10 was a nice consolation.
"Hey Joe Baker, you're on SportsCenter! Check out Joe's RIDICULOUS 3/4-court buzzer beater. #dadada," read a tweet from SportsCenter late Thursday evening.
The Eagles lost their quarterfinal game against Rugby in an overtime thriller, but Baker's heave to beat the first-quarter buzzer catapulted him onto ESPN's trademark program.
New Town's Joe Baker, left, landed the top spot on ESPN's SportsCenter on Thursday by sinking a 60-foot buzzer-beater to end the first quarter against Rugby.
"It guess it made me feel a lot better and it takes (the loss) off your mind," Baker said Friday.
Baker never thought he'd be on SportsCenter, but then again he also didn't plan on banking a one-handed prayer from the opposite 3-point line.
"It actually didn't feel too bad," he said. "Of course, I wasn't sure I was gonna make it as soon as I was shooting it, but I saw the way it was going and it was going straight to the hoop, so there was a chance."
Baker had fun with the 15-minutes of fame and tweeted at NBA star Russell Westbrook, who had the second best play of the night.
"Sorry for takin your number 1 spot @russwest44," Baker tweeted.
