On a cold and snowy Monday morning, B-52s and their crews take off from Minot Air Force Base for deployment to Andersen AFB in Guam, shown in these photos by Capt. Jeff M. Nagan. Four B-52s left Monday and several more from the 69th Bomb Squadron will be leaving in the next days. About 300 airmen from the base are being deployed to the Pacific, with the main contingency group leaving on Wednesday. Besides operators of the 69th Bomb Squadron, other base organizations will work in tandem to meet the requirements for the deployment including 5th Aircraft Maintenance, 5th Munitions, 5th Maintenance and 5th Operations Support squadrons. These deployments are done by Air Force Global Strike Command to provide support to the U.S. Pacific Commands’ continuous bomber presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
