LAS VEGAS - The Minot State softball team was one inning away from knocking off No. 1 Central Oklahoma on Saturday in a rematch of last year's NCAA DIvision II Central Regional matchup.
But the Bronchos recorded three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 3-2 victory over the Beavers in the final day of the Desert Stinger Tournament.
"We certainly would like to have that one back," MSU coach Bill Triplett said in a press release. "We battled them the entire way, but they showed why they have the lofty ranking and didn't give up. Give them credit, but give us credit as well, it was a back-and-forth game."
MSU (2-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings. Freshman Jordan Grant scored both runs and finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior Ali Cygan had a game-high three hits.
The Bronchos (2-3) tied the game on a two-run home run by Brooke Zukerman with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Emily Ditmore singled home Ally Dziadula to complete UCO's comeback victory.
The Beavers play in the Duluth Invitational beginning Feb. 23 against Lincoln University of Missouri.
