The Minot High girls hockey team couldn't find the back of the net against West Fargo on Friday, but had plenty of success doing just that against Fargo North on Saturday.
Minot forwards Bryanna Bergeron and Kinsey Hanson each netted a pair of goals and senior Makaila Anderson tacked on another in the Majettes' 5-2 win over North at Maysa Arena.
The Majettes (16-4 overall, 13-4 state) scored the first four goals of the contest and senior goaltender Sydney Swanson kept the Spartans (7-13, 7-8) off the board for the opening 29:02. Hanson put Minot in front at 7:01 of the first and the Majettes led 1-0 at the first intermission.
Minot High senior forward Makaila Anderson, the state’s leading scorer, skates past Fargo North’s Emily Dorsey on Saturday at Maysa Arena.
Minot added three markers in the second, the first coming just 1:32 into the frame on Bergeron's first of the game. Hanson and Bergeron each tallied their second goals 4:22 apart. Hanson's second came on the power play.
The Majettes committed six penalties, two yielding North goals. Anne Erickson scored both Spartan goals with the extra skater. Erickson's first came 10 seconds into an Anderson tripping penalty and the second 57 seconds into the third period to pull North within 4-2.
Anderson pushed Minot's lead back to three at 3:26 of the third.
The Majettes outshot North in each period and finished with a 41-29 edge. Swanson recorded 27 saves and North goaltender Hannah Sivertson had 36.
