Cathy Brynjulson, a former resident of Karlsruhe, passed away Feb. 1 after a brave fight against breast cancer.

Born to Margaret and Paul Streifel in North Dakota, Cathy grew up surrounded by eight brothers and sisters: Lawrence Streifel, Helen Degenstein, Mary Wood, Christine Boser, Jean Schwan, Dorothy Moss, Carolyn Gritten, and Romaine Streifel.

A self-made woman, she moved to Bismarck to attend radiology school and met the love of her life, Robert Brynjulson. In 1950 they married and moved to Detroit, Mich., where their only son, Barry, was born. They moved to San Leandro, Calif., in 1952, with Cathy practicing her trade at Eden Hospital. Cathy's other loves were her grandsons, Jesse and Brock, her daughter-in-law, Michele, travels, a practical joke, and playing cards.

A Celebration of Life: Will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Walnut Creek, Calif., at 11 a.m. on Feb. 12, with a reception following.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Cathy requested that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to The Paul and Margaret Streifel Scholarship Fund at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot, in her name.
