Erma Fahlgren

Erma Lenore Fahlgren, 86, Minot, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center, Minot.

Erma Miller was born May 24, 1927, in Kenmare, the daughter of Vernon Lee and Viola M. (Mickelberry) Miller, of Mouse River Park, rural Tolley. She grew up at Mouse River Park, where her parents operated the store, restaurant, and farmed. They family moved to Mohall in 1944. Erma attended Renville County schools and graduated from Mohall High School as salutatorian of the 1944 class. She then attended Minot State College for one year. She then was employed as a secretary in the Renville County Extension Office, Selective Service Affairs, the auditor's office, North Dakota Telephone Co., the ASC office in Mohall and Souris River Telephone Co.

Erma married Walfred Otis Fahlgren in Minot on Oct. 31, 1948. They lived in Mohall until moving to Minot in November 1956, when her husband was the first SRT employee transferred to Minot. Erma worked at Minot Builders Supply from December 1956 until going to work at Northern States Power Co. on Aug. 12, 1957, and worked there until she retired in January 1988. She also was a retired International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers member. Her husband died Aug. 11, 2002, and Erma continued to live in Minot.

Erma and Wally loved to travel and visited all 50 states, five Canadian provinces, Mexico, England and France.

Erma was an active bowler, bowling in many city, state and one national tournament. She volunteered at the Minot Convention and Visitors Bureau, the YWCA, and with RSVP (Retired Senior Citizens Program). She loved to read and work crossword puzzles.

Erma was a lifetime member of Vincent United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both of Minot. She was also a member of American Association of Retired Persons, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary, a charter member of the Elkettes, the Northwest Area Girl Scouts, where she was life member and served one term on the board of directors, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Past Matrons Club, Royal Neighbors Camp, Senior Citizens League and YWCA, all of Minot. Erma was a member of the WIBC (Women's International Bowling Congress) from 1957 until 1994 and a member of the Naomi Chapter No. 55 Order of the Eastern Star (past matron) in Mohall.

Survivors: Nieces and nephews, Leann (Stephen) Hayton, Minot, Lorna (Robert) Erickson, Grand Forks, Darroll (Caroline) Miller, Colorado Springs, Colo., Carol Ann (David) Drunford, Missoula, Mont., Dr. Donovan (Michael Feele) Miller, New Glarus, Wis. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother; and three brothers, Arthur, A. Lee and Chester Miller.

Funeral: Will be at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at 2 p.m.

Visitation: Will be at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Burial: Will be at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Memorials: Are preferred to Vincent United Methodist Church Foundation or the donor's choice.
