Victor H. Selfors, 80, Minot, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Victor Henry Selfors was born Nov. 1, 1933, the son of Nelson F. and Signy (Berg) Selfors, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot and started working for the Great Northern Railway in 1953.

Victor married his best friend, Sharon Lee, on April 21, 1956, in Minot. Victor was drafted into the Army on Dec. 6, 1956. They were stationed in Gary, Ind., where their son Steven was born. Victor was honorably discharged from the Army on Dec. 6, 1958.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, they moved to Burlington, where their daughter, Nancy, and son Gregory were born. Victor resumed work with Great Northern. He became the first mayor for the city of Burlington where he was very proud to have been part of bringing water and sewer to the citizens there.

Victor and Sharon went everywhere together and were a shining example of love to everyone around them. They loved to travel to see his sisters and brothers and other relatives whether in state or out of state. He thoroughly enjoyed his nieces and nephews, whether it be wrestling with the boys or getting kisses from the girls.

In 1978 they moved to Minot. Victor retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1995, as a section foreman, after 42 years of employment. His grandson, Marshall, was born the day before he was scheduled for bypass surgery, and a very strong bond was formed between the two. He could not have been more proud of his "Little Buddy."

Victor enjoyed entertaining and spending time at their lake cabin at Lake Metigoshe. His favorites there were the pontoon rides, campfires with s'mores, hot dogs and 99's, and playing cards with family and friends. He was very thankful for his family and friends and just found joy in spending time with them whenever possible.

Victor loved to visit and help people whenever he could. He put others first and was always there when someone needed help.

He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Elks Club, Sons of Norway, the Singles Club, all of Minot, and NARVE.

His loving family includes: son, Steven (Lori) Selfors, Minot; daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Horst, Minot; grandchildren, Marshall Selfors; stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Kayla Horst; sisters, Lorraine Alfstad, Seattle, Betty Barrett, Mount Lake Terrace, Wash,; brothers, Duane, Rodney and Theodore Selfors, all Minot, and Darroll Selfors, Thayer, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Victor was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Sharon, who passed away May 3, 1998; infant son, Gregory; sisters, Sigrid Schmidt, Ruth Serio, Marjorie Lakoduk and Patricia Fimreite; and brothers, Frank and Lloyd Selfors.
