Helen Frances Whiting died at home in Bismarck, Nov. 29, 2013.
Helen was born June 27, 1918, to Uri Rice and Gertrude (Rayne) Whiting, in Westhope.
Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Esther Wieman, and her nephew, Dennis Kann.
Helen is survived by: her son, Steven (Pamela) Kielhack, Chatham, Mass.; her grandchildren, Sarah (Jonathan) Idman, Harwich, Mass., and Aaron (Diana) Kielhack, Bismarck; her great-grandchildren, Nils and Annika Idman, Harwich, Mass., and Lillian, Giselle and Winston Kielhack, Bismarck; a niece, Dianne (Jerry) Fisher, Minot; and a great-nephew, Josh (Kayla) Fisher, Minot.
Helen was clerk of the school board in Minot, as well as secretary to the Honorable Bruce M. Van Sickle, United States District Judge, from 1971 to 2002. Helen was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Bismarck. She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution on April 15, 1950; Pierre Verendrye Chapter, Minot, and Minishoshe Chapter, Bismarck; Eastern Star, Venus Chapter, Minot, Worthy Matron 1972; American Legion Auxiliary, Minot; League of Women Voters, Bismarck; Federal Judicial Secretaries Association, president 1992-93; and National Association of Female Executives.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park cemetery, Minot, at a later date.
Helen supported both the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and the Abused Adult Resource Center, Seeds of Hope.
