Thomas Ryan Meyer, 36, of Ray, was taken too early and died as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Lignite on Dec. 30, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at the Ray Lutheran Church in Ray at 2 p.m.

Tom was born May 19, 1977, in Williston, to Stephen and Jean Meyer. He spent his youth on the family farm north of Ray and attended Ray Public School K-12, graduating in 1995. He then attended UND-Williston, where he obtained a diesel mechanic degree in 1997. It didn't take long for him to find his place in the world and he started working the rigs. He moved quickly through the drilling operations ranks, working as the PIC, independent contractor for numerous rigs throughout western N.D. He always tried to do right by his crews and was known for being able to get the tough jobs done right.

Tom lived for his children, his family, and his friends. He was loved by those who knew him and was a truly remarkable man. Tom was known for his generosity of spirit, unique smile, and his zest for life. He loved to travel and spoke fondly of his many trips with his friends across the country, especially those to Disney World with his children. He was always planning the next big trip. Tom loved all things "country" those were his roots. If someone was in need, he was right there for them. Everyone knew where they stood with Tom.
