Riley Dolezal shocked the track and field community in June when he won the javelin title at the USA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Stanley native shattered his personal best entering the meet by more than 30 feet, winning the event with a heave of 83.50 meters (273 feet, 11 inches). Dolezal, who turned 28 in November, was seeded 14th in the field.
Dolezal's mark matched the world "A" standard and gave him automatic qualification to represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Moscow, where he failed to advance past the qualification round.
