Fifth-graders in Washington Elementary’s after-school Character Counts Club made 13 fleece fabric tie blankets earlier this month for children at the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. There are about 32 members of the club at Washington this year, said counselor Jackie Geiger. “Our mission is to reach out to our schoolmates and community. We try to build a safe school community where older students build relationships with younger students,” said Geiger. The group also likes to do community service projects, such as the one this holiday season.
