Rueben Fenner, 91, of Stanley and Palermo, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in a Stanley nursing home. His funeral is scheduled for today, Dec. 28, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Our Saviors Free Lutheran Church in Stanley. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Stanley. Visitation is today, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
Rueben W. Fenner was born Oct. 30, 1922, at Deep, N.D., to Walter and Valeria (Trebes) Fenner. He attended school in Maxbass. Rueben worked for Buckingham Garage in Maxbass for several years and for Checker Cab in Minot. He joined the Marines in 1943, received his bootcamp training in San Diego, Calif., and then shipped out to the South Pacific. He participated at Noumea, New Caledonia, Guadalacanal, (BSI), Marshall Islands Area, Guam (MI) and Iwo Jima (VI). Rueben joined the 3rd Marine Division while at Guadalcanal. He was discharged from the service in June 1946 and returned to North Dakota.
Rueben married Hazel Klev on Nov. 7, 1948, at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They moved to Seattle, Wash., in 1956. Rueben was employed with Boeing Corporation for 27 years. He retired in 1983 and they returned to Palermo. He worked for various farmers in the area for 10 years.
Rueben was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Stanley, serving on the council for several years, and was active in various church projects.
Hazel passed away in December 2008. Rueben had resided at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley since October 2009.
Rueben is survived by: his sister, Muriel Beters, Seattle, Wash.; brothers-in-law, Peter Cavalero, of California, and E.W. Klev, of Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Hazel; his parents; and four sisters preceded him in death.
