Maxine Nicholls, 73, Kenmare, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in a Kenmare hospital.

Maxine E. Johnson was born Sept. 11, 1940, a daughter of Irenous and Emma (Jensen) Johnson, in Kenmare. She was raised and educated in Kenmare, graduating from Kenmare High School in 1957.

Maxine was united in marriage to Ralph Nicholls on March 22, 1958, in Kenmare. They made their home in Kenmare, where Maxine worked at the Kenmare Hospital, Essler Insurance and Town and Country Credit Union. In 1995, they moved to Minot, where she worked for the Minot Housing Authority. In 2001, they returned to Kenmare. Ralph passed away Jan. 20, 2006. Following his death, Maxine spent winters with her daughter Susan.

Maxine enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, knitting, working with her computer and spending time with the grandchildren, attending as many of their events as possible.

Maxine is survived by: daughters, Sherry (Duane) Golde, Kenmare, Sandy (Kelley) Peterson, Kenmare, Susan Bartram, Fort Hood, Texas, Stephanie (friend Christopher "Hoss" Sandy) Burtch, Kenmare; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren: sisters, Marlene (friend Frank Pister) Dahlin, Kief, Verna (Dean) Lindberg, Temple, Texas, Helen (Lloyd) Caine, Kenmare; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who also survive.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; an infant daughter; and two grandchildren, Fred Bartram and Alexandria Bartram.

Memorial service: Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.

Burial: A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, friends may sign a guest register Monday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
