Sandra M. Pierson, 72, of Minot, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Minot.

Sandra Marie Stangland was born April 18, 1941, in Fillmore. She was the daughter of Andy and Clarice (Bue) Stangland. She was raised and educated in the Fillmore and Esmond areas, and graduated from Dakota Lutheran Academy in Minot in 1959.

Sandy was united in marriage to Stanley J. Pierson on July 6, 1959, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where they raised three children, Donald, Celeste and Leslie.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in the LWML, Loyal Order of the Women of the Moose and the Nodak Speedway Women's Auxiliary, all of Minot.

Sandra is survived by: her husband of 54 years, Stanley; sons, Donald (Brenda Smith) Pierson, Wendell, N.C., Leslie (Diane) Pierson, Minot; daughter, Celeste (Tom) Simmons, Minot; grandchildren, Bethany Pierson, Marshfield, Wis., Juli (Jesse) Rittenbach, Mark Pierson, Kristian Pierson, Jermey Simmons, Breanne Pierson, Destinie Pierson, all of Minot; great-grandchildren, Jamison and Dallas Rittenbach, Minot; sisters, Jean (Jerry) Borstad, Florence, Ariz., Cassie (Ray) Haas, Minot, Lynne Jenson, Missoula, Mont.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sandy was preceded in death by: her parents, Andy and Clarice Stangland; daughter, Pauline M. Pierson; grandson, Trent Simmons; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alma and Frank Pierson.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m., in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Today, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to Fillmore Cemetery, Trinity Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church LWML.
