Melvin Joseph Eaton III, 37, from North Carolina, had his probation lengthened to five years at a hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Eaton had been sentenced in September 2007 for a Class AA felony charge of gross sexual imposition to eight years with four and one half years suspended for five years probation following his release.
Due to failing a drug test and being discharged for sex offender treatment back in September of this year, a probation officer filed a motion to the court to revoke Eaton's probation.
Northwest Judicial District Judge Gary Lee instead lengthened Eaton's supervised probation by five years.
A character reference letter sent from a member of Eaton's community in North Carolina to Lee insisted that Eaton was a hardworking, loyal and kind neighbor who always helps people out as best as he can and that in talks with him he has expressed remorse for these failings. The letter also pointed out that this was his first probation violation and that drug use is uncharacteristic of him.
