The North Dakota Highway Patrol, along with the Divide County Sheriff's Department, investigated a crash that occurred Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on Highway 85, northeast of Zahl.
Cameron Antos, 29, of Missoula, Mont., driving a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling southbound on Highway 85 and pulled out into the northbound lane to pass another vehicle traveling south.
The driver who was traveling south, Loren A. Shunkwiler, 54, of Williston, who was operating a 2011 Kenworth T-800 semi, was traveling north on Highway 85 from the Trenton area to the Ambrose area.
Antos' vehicle struck Shunkwiler's semi head-on in the northbound lane of Highway 85. Antos' vehicle rotated counterclockwise, left the roadway and entered the west ditch. Shunkwiler's semi left the roadway and entered the east ditch, rotating clockwise while in the ditch. Antos' vehicle came to rest upright, facing west in the ditch, while Shunkwiler's semi came to rest upright, facing south in the east ditch.
Antos, who was not wearing safety restraints, was fatally injured in the crash. Shunkwiler, who was wearing a seatbelt, was injured.
