WILLISTON (AP) - North Dakota state Sen. Stan Lyson (LEE'-suhn) says he will not seek re-election next year.
The 77-year-old Williston Republican made the announcement in a letter to Republican Majority Leader Rich Wardner this week. Lyson says he will step aside to let "younger people step forward."
The former law officer was elected to the state Senate in 1999 and began his first term in January 2000. He is the current chairman of the Natural Resources Committee.
