The Audubon National Wildlife Refuge staff recognized the outstanding contributions of several volunteers during a luncheon earlier this month. The volunteers, known as the Audubon Refuge Partners, provide assistance to refuge staff in carrying out conservation education and recreational programs for both youth and adults.
The luncheon was hosted by refuge staff, and was followed by recognition of several volunteers. The officers, President Don Robison, Riverdale; Vice President Nikki Pederson, Coleharbor; Secretary Eileen McEnroe, Bismarck; and Treasurer Gayle Schumann, Washburn, were recognized for their dedication in leading the organization.
The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Schumann. Some of Schumann's major accomplishments for the year included serving as treasurer and tracking all finances for the group, including the Prairie Pond Store, and tracking partner funding donated for special projects. She was also instrumental in helping with youth events.

Other projects completed by Audubon Refuge Partners volunteers in 2013 include: cutting lumber for chickadee and wood duck nest box building workshops, assisting with artwork for the North Dakota Junior Duck Stamp Contest, operating the Prairie Pond Store, providing leadership to youth attending Refuge events, hosting nature-related classes and pontoon tours to refuge islands.
