Johnson, Boag get NSIC honors
On Monday, Minot State University men's basketball player Samuel Johnson was honored as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week.
Johnson, a 6-foot-6 senior, averaged a double-double last week, putting up a combined 34 points and 22 rebounds in the Beavers' two nonconference wins.
He had a game-high 21 points against Presentation College on Sunday and pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds against Dickinson State last Tuesday.
MSU plays Valley City State at home on Sunday at 3 p.m. and begins conference play on Nov. 30 against University of Mary.
Also on Monday, MSU senior Carly Boag was named NSIC Player of the Week for women's basketball - her fourth such honor in the past two years.
The 6-2 senior recorded a double-double with 29 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday in an 82-67 win over University of Jamestown.
Altogether last week, she tallied 51 points, 21 rebounds, five assists, five steals and four blocks to lead the Beavers to a pair of nonconference wins.
The Beavers host Dickinson State at 5 p.m. Sunday before opening NSIC play next week against Mary.

UND fires head football coach
GRAND FORKS - University of North Dakota athletic director Brian Faison announced Monday that head football coach Chris Mussman has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.
"I want to thank Chris for his service to UND and wish him well in his future endeavors," Faison said.
Mussman recently completed his sixth season as head football coach at UND with a career record of 31-34.
UND ended the 2013 season with a 3-8 record and finished the past two seasons 5-11 in Big Sky Conference play.

UND defenseman honored by NCHC
The National Collegiate Hockey Conference honored University of North Dakota senior Dillon Simpson on Monday as the conference Defenseman of the Week.
Simpson registered four points and three blocked shots in a series split against No. 20 Minnesota-Duluth. He matched his career high with two assists in Friday's 4-2 win and scored a power-play goal and added an assist in a 6-3 loss the following night.
UND will travel for a non-conference series at Boston University on Friday and Saturday.
