Volunteers with the Minot State University Student Social Work Organization stand along Broadway near Town & Country Center Saturday to alert motorists to their annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” event, conducted in partnership with the Minot Area Homeless Coalition. They were standing in the cold to draw attention to the issues of hunger and homelessness while accepting contributions of nonperishable food and cash. Mac McLeod, executive director of the homeless coalition, said donors included one pickup driver who pulled in with a truck bed full of canned goods. But he added, “It’s not how much you bring. Just be a part of it. This is a community effort.”
