Surrey High School students performed "10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse" during the Region 8 One Act Play Contest held Nov. 7 at Minot State University. The play was directed by Katie Brekke. Cast members included Hailey Johnson, Jordyn Clapper, Tifany Hiller, Caitlyn Bachmeier, Donavon Swartout, Ciera Bower, Syana Day, Karmen Miller and Annie Bachmeier. Stage crew were Cambree Ferguson, Raquell Lemere, Brynn Klein, Shaylee Miller, Abigail Storkson and Stephenie Severson. Other school districts competing included Mohall, Drake-Anamoose, Sawyer, Velva, Lewis and Clark, Towner-Granville-Upham and Glenburn.
TGU-Granville won first place overall; Velva won second place. Both will advance to the state competition in Jamestown Nov. 25-26.
Superior acting awards went to Krystal Heth, Westhope; Cordell Volson, Drake-Anamoose; Levi Lemer, Drake-Anamoose; McKenna Foley, Velva; Connor Martinez, TGU-Granville; Sage Ballantyne, Westhope; Jenny Poth, Glenburn; and Harleigh Thompson, TGU-Granville. Honorable mention acting awards went to Tyrel Mollerud, Lewis and Clark-Berthold; Madison Moen, Lewis and Clark-Berthold; Jon Heth, Westhope; Jacob Effertz, Velva; Brad Dean, Velva; Mara Roteliuk, Sawyer; Myrena Denelsbeck, Sawyer; and Nicci Buck, Glenburn. Director of the year awards went to Paula Nett and JoEllen Lee, Glenburn High School.
