Gene Zablotney

Gene Zablotney, 69, Red Wing, Minn., formerly of Minot and Makoti, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in a Red Wing, Minn., hospital.

Gene was born June 19, 1944, the middle son of Frank and Elise (Oneshenko) Zablotney, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Makoti, graduating from Makoti High School in 1962. He worked on the family farm with his four brothers, affectionately known as the "Z" brothers.

On Aug. 17, 1967, Gene entered the Army. He was honorably medically discharged on Oct. 20, 1967. Following his discharge he returned home to Makoti and assisted his parents.

Gene enjoyed music and could strike up a conversation with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed walking around Minot with his radio, and visiting Subway, Dairy Queen, Burger King and Ryans, enjoying a glass of pop.

In August 2003, he entered the Garrison Nursing Home. In September 2005, he moved to Red Wing Health Center in Red Wing. Family was very important to Gene. He would always remember his nephews and nieces at Christmastime. He had a kind heart and was always asking about his family and friends.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Minot.

Gene is survived by: brothers, Marvin (Viola) Zablotney, Edwin (Bernadyne) Zablotney, Arnold (Helen) Zablotney, Richard (Brenda Kinn) Zablotney; nieces and nephews, Jason (Tiffany) Zablotney, Chastity (Maury) Askvig, Chris (Dottie) Zablotney, Nicole (Jamie) Johansen, Tammy (Jerry) Rieber, Tracy Zablotney, Troy Zablotney, Travis (Kerri) Zablotney, and Tiffanie (Barry) Fettig; along with several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie; nephew, Gerhardt Zablotney; and niece, Natasha Zablotney.

Funeral service: Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m., in First Assembly of God Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: Are preferred to the First Assembly of God Church of Minot or to an organization of the donor's choice.
