Verendrye Electric Power Cooperative's Minot office received numerous calls Sunday evening reporting that power was out to the southeast of Minot, near the bypass. About 2,600 customers were affected from 7:41 to 9:12 p.m., the time the last of the customers had their power restored.
According to Randy Hauck, a Verendrye spokesman, a contractor doing work for an entity other than their company accidentally dug through one of their lines providing power to the area while performing work after dark.
"We isolated it (the line) and rerouted power in different directions," Hauck said. "They're out fixing the cables today."
He said many of their customers had their power returned within 45 minutes.
