Sidney Faldalen

Sidney Theodore Faldalen, age 91, of Fargo, and formerly of Noonan, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Bethany Retirement Living Center surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Noonan. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ambrose.

Visitation will be today, Oct. 25, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.

Sidney was born on June 16, 1922, to Olaf and Selma (Steen) Faldalen, near Ambrose, N.D. He attended a country school and then school in Ambrose.

On June 11, 1949, he married Violet Brenno. They made their home in Minot, N.D., Seattle, Wash., and Fairbanks, Alaska, before returning to Ambrose. They had four children. In 1984, they sold their farm and moved to Noonan, N.D. On May 28, 1998, Violet passed away.

Sidney married Virginia Marshall in July of 1999. They lived in Harlowton, Mont. Virginia passed away in 2005. Sidney returned to Noonan until moving to Trollwood Village in Fargo, N.D., in July of 2012. He loved his home there and the many friends he made there, as well as his noon lunch group.

Sidney had 62 years of carpentry experience; he drove school bus; he worked as a civilian at the Air Force base near Fairbanks, Alaska, and the Fortuna Air Force Station; and he worked for Lund Construction & Fagerland Gravel. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed, curling, fishing and hunting. He loved gardening and would sell his much wanted and asked for produce at the Farmers Market. He canned many vegetables, fruits and PaPa Sid's dill pickles. He loved baking the many Scandinavian goodies and making lefse and instructed many on making it. He loved dancing, playing cards and pool.

Sidney is survived by: his children, Linda Kihle (Barry Krogh), Harwood, N.D., Karen Roddy (Terry Long), Enid, Okla., Lori (Dean) Sawyer, Estevan, Sask., and Steven Faldalen, Noonan, N.D.; special friend, Winnie Schiele, Williston, N.D.; one brother, Oscar (Betty) Faldalen, Yukon, Okla.; and one sister, Eunice Carlstad, of Chester, Mont.; seven grandchildren, Jade Kihle, Tiffaney (Josh) Holm, Chad Roddy, Stacie (Jeremy) Bedford, Jeremy Roddy, Kristin Faldalen and Lucas Faldalen; and six great-grandchildren.

Sidney was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; second wife, Virginia; parents, Olaf and Selma; three brothers Ole, George, and Severin; and two sons-in-law, Michael Kihle and Roy Roddy.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
