It took donated funds and volunteer help, but the American Legion Park at the popular Van Hook Recreation Area on Lake Sakakawea recently received an upgrade. New swing sets, a merry-go-round, climbing bars and a "tot lot" were put in place. In addition, existing shelters and picnic tables were refurbished.
"The Legion Park is a wonderful amenity for Van Hook," said Dawn Ritts, park manager, in a prepared release. "It will be enjoyed by hundreds of people annually. We can't give enough thanks to our donors and volunteers for making this park come to life."
The $30,00 in funding for the project came from a variety of donors. The largest contribution of $10,500 was made by Slawson Exploration.
Volunteers do the necessary work to get new playground equipment in place in the American Legion Park at the Van Hook Recreation Area. The project was completed recently.
"We had raised $19,500 and we were happy with that, but to really bring the park to life we needed to hit $30,000 and Slawson delivered," said Ritts.
A dedication party is planed for early 2014.
