Helen Sherlock Wiest, 74, of Earlsboro, Okla., passed away from ovarian cancer on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at her home.
She was born March 29, 1939, to Walter and Julianna Henrietta (Werdin) Sherlock in Anamoose. Helen was raised in Anamoose where she attended school until the 10th grade. She moved to Roy, Mont., and graduated with the class of 1957. She married Calvin Wiest on June 14, 1958, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose. Helen had lived in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Minnesota before moving to Earlsboro in 1978. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and music. Helen was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shawnee, Okla., where was a member of the altar guild and taught Sunday school and VBS.
Helen is survived by: four children, Donna (Keith) Gregson, of Asher, Okla., Natalie (Ed) Slouffman, of Anchorage, Alaska, Dan "Randy" Wiest of Earlsboro, and Paula Wiest, of Konawa, Okla.; four grandchildren, James Ngo, Justin Shannon, Brittany Butt and Bridget Velasquez; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Ferne) Sherlock, of Alexander, Agnes Sherlock, of Anoka, Minn., and Lester (Monika) Sherlock, of Manassas, Va.; sister-in-law, Becky Sherlock, of Wewoka, Okla.; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Clement, Kenneth and Gertrude Sherlock; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sherlock; and granddaughter, Tasha Wiest.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., in St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose with Rev. Larry Marschner officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
