The Minot Police Department has identified Margarito Lopez, 25, Minot, as the man who died Monday night after driving his vehicle into the Souris River.
The accident happened around 7:45 p.m. Monday
Lopez failed to negotiate a curve where Fourth Avenue Northwest meets Fourth Street along a river dike. Tire tracks could still be seen by Tuesday afternoon.
The car went over the dike and became submerged in the water. A short time later the Minot Fire Department dive team was able to pull Lopez from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Trinity Hospital.
His passenger, Dustin Smith, 29, Minot, survived the incident because he was able to exit the vehicle before it went under, according to police.
