Etta Cecelia Dragswolf (Holy Owl Woman-Swahuru' Tiwaruxti), 89, New Town, was called home by the Creator on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, with her family by her side.

Cecelia was born on Jan. 17, 1924, in the Beaver Creek community on the Fort Berthold Reservation to Mary (Howling Wolf) and Edward Lockwood Sr. She was raised and attended school in Beaver Creek, alongside her 13 brothers and sisters. Cecelia was an active member of the Church of God in New Town. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially during the Easter and Christmas holidays. She was an accomplished homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and sewing; especially star quilts. Cecelia was employed as a custodian at Fort Berthold Community College and New Town High School. She also prepared senior citizen meals for the Fort Berthold Aging Services Program for several years. She was a private person who enjoyed her home life; spending time in her garden when she could or tending her houseplants and tropical fish, as well as solving puzzles. Cecelia will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially during the holiday gatherings.

Cecelia is survived by: her sister, Beulah Lockwood; children, Cheryl Grinnell (Calvin) of New Town, Darrel Lockwood (Rozelle) of Fort Thompson, S.D., Leo Lockwood (Betty) of New Town and Merle Lockwood of New Town; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Hugh Dragswolf Sr.; sisters, Emma Jones, Belva Valley, Viola Goodall, Hilda Smith, Geraldine Lockwood and Victoria Lockwood; brothers, Roy, Edward Jr., Joseph, Wilfred, Vernon and Leroy Sr.

Funeral: Monday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. in the Johnny Bird Veterans Memorial Hall, New Town.

Interment: Snowbird Cemetery, rural New Town.

Wake: (Today) Sunday, Sept. 29, beginning at 5 p.m. in the memorial hall.
