Girl Scouts are hoping that Camp Owetti will be ready for occupancy by late July 2014, said Northwest District director Kathy Wamsley.
The camp in Oak Park was heavily damaged during the flood of 2011 and Girl Scouts have not been able to hold their annual camp there for the last two years.
The camp is owned by the Minot Park District and is maintained by the Girl Scouts. Wamsley said the main building on the camp grounds was flooded to its rafters. It has been gutted down to its shell, so no flooring or walls remain. Wamsley said work could begin late this fall or early this winter to restore it. Federal Emergency Management Agency dollars will be applied to the reconstruction.
"Everybody's anxious (for it to be done)," said Wamsley, who said other locations have been used for Girl Scout activities in Minot in the past two years, but they are eager to return to their historic camp.
