Carl E. Billing, 77, Minot, passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, in his home.

Carl was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Crookston, Minn., the oldest son of five of Aaron and Helen Billing. They moved to Minot when Carl was 7 years old. He attended school in Minot.

Carl married Vivian Hatley on Dec. 27, 1957, in Deering. They have four daughters and one son.

He enjoyed many camping and fishing trips to Deep Water Bay with his family and friends. He also enjoyed going to threshing shows and loved doing woodworking in his shop. During the winter months, Carl's favorite pastime was snowmobiling.

Carl worked for L & H Plumbing and Johnson Concrete in his younger years. He started working for Sweetheart Bakery in 1958, retiring in 1995 after 37 years of employment. After his retirement, Carl helped his uncle Dick and cousin Tom Burtch farm in the spring and fall for 11 years.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 55 years, Vivian; children, Coleen Billing, Linda (Jeff) Settel, Russell (Tracy) Billing, Denise (Corey) Telehey and Diane (Delwin) Blumhagen; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Lance Opperude) Billing, Stephanie (Jordan) Torgerson, Nick (Andrea) Settel, Kyle (Angie Carlisle) Settel, Derek Telehey, Brittany (Jeremy Nelson) Telehey, Kayla Andrade and Aaron Blumhagen; six great-grandchildren, Keegan Andrade, Angel Jerzey Sturdevant, Addison Sturdevant, Tucker Torgeson, Angel Kolten Opperude and Kenadee Nelson; sisters, Rosemary (Ron) Fassl and Sharon Roy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Helen; sister, Faye Gaddis; brother, Donald Billing; and great-grandsons, Kolten Opperude and Jerzey Sturdevant.

Funeral service: Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
