GRANVILLE While traveling southbound along Fifth Avenue North, a gravel road seven miles east of Granville, Travis J. Smette, 20, Granville, failed to yield to a westbound Amtrak train at a crossing Thursday morning.
He nearly made it across the tracks, but ultimately the train struck the left rear side of his 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck, splitting it into two pieces. Both pieces came to rest in the southwest ditch. Smette suffered minor injuries and was transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
The train suffered minor damage to its engine, and there were no injuries reported for any of its passengers.
