Yvonne "Vonnie" Florence McCall, 83, Bismarck, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, due to complications sustained from a recent car accident near her home in Bismarck.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.

Vonnie was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Portal, to Emery and Blanche Carpentier. Vonnie grew up on a farm near Portal. She graduated from Portal High School and worked in the Portal area as a country school teacher, immigration clerk and postal clerk.

On Nov. 18, 1950, Vonnie married Jack "John" McCall. Jack and Vonnie lived a short time in Outlook, Mont., before moving to the Portal area, where they resided until 1966. In 1966, they moved to Max, where Vonnie worked in the post office, served on the Max School Board, and then later purchased and operated the Silver Dollar Saloon. In 1990, they moved to their current address in Bismarck.

Vonnie was a wonderful mother who loved children, especially her grandchildren. She had a real talent for calming upset babies. Vonnie was a terrific cook who made thousands of pies and pastries throughout her lifetime. She loved to share her baked goods with family, friends, and people in need. In her later life, Vonnie could not pass by a good rummage sale, auction, or thrift store. She thoroughly enjoyed her continuous search for antiques and collectibles.

Vonnie is survived by: her son, Donald (Diane); daughters, Deborah (Terry) Stavn, Jayne (Jerry) Rixen, Suzette McCall, and Jacqueline (Howard) McCall; her sisters, Marcie Wilkes, Mary Downie, Jean McCall; her brothers, Pat and Pierre Carpentier; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Blanche and Emery Carpentier; and brothers, Jerry and David Carpentier.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at St. Alexius Medical Center for the wonderful care our mother received in the final days before her death.
