Funeral services for LeRoy Standish, 67, of Hardin, Mont., will be at 10 a.m., today, Aug. 21, 2013, at Water Chief Hall in Mandaree, N.D. The wake service was at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Water Chief Hall. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Independence, N.D., under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City. LeRoy was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Elbowoods, N.D.. a son of Lenore Beaks and Alton Standish. LeRoy was the oldest of four children and spent his childhood years in Independence and then later in Sanish, N.D. He left to a Pierre, S.D., boarding school and finished his high school education at Flandreau Indian School.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and was stationed in South Korea during the Vietnam era. He received an honorable discharge. Afterwards, LeRoy married Caroline Driver and had four sons. Later in life he married Frances Wallace and had 5 children. They lived in Fort Smith, Mont., where he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation at the Yellowtail Dam. After brief retirement he went back to college and received his associate's degree and retired as food distribution director of HRDC in Hardin, Mont.
Leroy Standish Sr., 67, of Hardin, Mont., died Aug. 15, 2013, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by: brother, Leander Standish; sister, Marilynn Poole; daughters, Christina (Luke) Deputee, Cheryl, Candace, and Jodi Standish; sons, Galvin (Priscilla), Norman, Leroy Jr., Thornton, and Robert Standish; and many grandchildren, cousins, friends and family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lenore and Alton; and siblings, Pete Standish and Joanne Smith.
