Charles Willard "Oscar" Shipman, 72, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away at the Community Living Center in the Leavenworth VA Complex on Aug. 10, 2013, with his wife by his side.
Memorial Services will be 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, with Pastor Rob Self officiating.
Charles was born July 27, 1941, in Anaconda, Mont., to Willard S. and Dorothy B. (Watt) Shipman. He attended high school and then served in the Army. Charles worked in construction his entire life until his retirement.
He married Cora Mae Bergstad, and they divorced. He then married Jimmy Chambers-Jones on Nov. 11, 2007, in Weston, Mo.
He is survived by: his wife; one daughter, Shannon Skalicky and her husband, Benny, of Norwich; three sons, Wayne Shipman, and his wife, Denise, of Carrington, Shawn Shipman, of McMurray, Pa., and Daniel Shipman, of Hutchinson, Kan.; three stepchildren, James Jones, of Wyandotte County, Kan., Jenny Savage, of Leavenworth, and Sammi Jo, of Hutchinson, Kan.; one sister; Janette Lucille "Peach" Shelton, and her husband, Dale, Great Falls, Mont.; and 11 grandchildren; also his close friends, Kenny Miles, Rick Harris, J.T. Haley, Bill Curtis, Dave Warren, Tommy Eastburn and many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Shane Shipman; one granddaughter, Kira Clott; three sisters; and Aunt Lottie, and Big Wayne.
