Hank Stead Jr., 69, of Westhope, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, on arrival at a Bottineau hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m., in First Presbyterian Church, Westhope. Cremation will take place. Visitation will be today, Aug. 9, beginning at 2 p.m., in Nero Funeral Home, Westhope.
Henry "Hank" Stead, a son of Henry "Harry" and Esther (Sannes) Stead, was born July 3, 1944, at Westhope. He was reared in Westhope. Hank graduated from Westhope High School in 1962. On March 16, 1964, he entered the North Dakota Army National Guard. He was attached to the 142 Engineering Battalion. On March 12, 1970, he was honorably discharged.
On June 2, 1972, he was married to Rhonda Benning at Antler. Hank began working on the family farm. In 1992, they owned and operated a campground in Verdin, Man. Their marriage later ended.
Hank then moved to Leeds, and continued to work in agriculture. In 2006, he moved to Minot and in 2010 he returned to Westhope, where he had resided since.
He enjoyed collecting patriotic memorabilia, going for drives, spoiling his children and grandchildren, being outdoors, and watching and reading westerns.
He is survived by: daughters, Marisa and her husband, Joel Haman, of Minot, and Megan and her husband, Corey Mott, of Westhope; grandchildren, Paul Haman and Ledger Mott; stepgrandchildren, Dustin Mott, Alexandra Mott and Jesse Mott; companion, Genevieve Loethen; brother, Arthur Stead, of Westhope; sisters, Thelma Spafford, of Dilworth, Minn., and Lorraine Emerson, of Minot.
