Ruby Eleanor Howard, 99, of Chandler, Ariz., former longtime Minot resident, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in the Park Regency Care Center in Chandler.
Ruby was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Forman, the 11th child of Henry and Amanda (Nelson) Walstead. She was reared and educated there and graduated from Forman High School.
In 1938, Ruby married Stanley Howard in Cogswell. They made their home in Crosby prior to moving to Minot in 1941. They had resided at 605-14th St. NW for many years. Ruby was employed at the Minot branch of the North Dakota Welfare Department (now N.D. Department of Human Services) and Stan was a former co-owner and president of John Iverson Co., an electrical and electronics wholesale company. Stan died Feb. 22, 1982. Ruby continued to make her home in Minot during the summer and in Phoenix during the winter until she moved to Chandler permanently in 2006.
Ruby was a longtime and active member of First Lutheran Church in Minot. She was also a member of the Minot Country Club and Elks Lodge. She especially enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.
Ruby is survived by: her daughter, Susan Howard (Gene Beck), of Chandler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 10 siblings.
Graveside service: Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
