Kathy Ferguson, 60, Fargo, formerly of Minot, and of Traverse City, Mich., passed away peacefully Friday, July 19, 2013, with her family by her side, at Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo, following a long battle with multiple sclerosis and diabetes.
Kathleen Marie Elizabeth Grandbois was born July 30, 1952, the daughter of Leo and Delores Grandbois, in Fargo. After graduating from Fargo Shanley High School, she worked for Bell Telephone as an operator. Kathy was introduced to Robert H. Ferguson (aka "Charlie Foxx") by Suzanne Foster on a blind date. It was love at first sight and they were married Dec. 7, 1974, and headed for El Paso, Texas, where Charlie was working, taking all of Kathy's belongings in a 1962 Volkswagen Beetle.
Kathy was a true and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She and Charlie moved multiple times for his jobs in the radio broadcasting industry and made friends quickly and easily wherever they went. Kathy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in Duluth, Minn., in 1984. Through the ensuing years she was always bright, happy and full of life.
She and Charlie were living in Traverse City, Mich., when the MS made it impossible to care for her at home and she entered Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo on Aug. 16, 2006. Through it all, Kathy's kind spirit and the wonderful staff at Bethany kept her comfortable and happy. Kathy has gone home to rest and be with her parents and grandparents. We will all miss her dearly and remember her always.
She is survived by: her husband, Charlie, Traverse City, Mich.; two sons, Christopher, and his daughters, Cambree and Myliegh, all of Minot; and Eric (Carmen), and their daughters, Giorgia and Elisabeth, all of McMinnville, Ore. She is also survived by her brothers, Gary (Claudette) and Jim Grandbois, and her sister, Cheryl (Steve) Hoffman, all of Fargo; and two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Arrangements are being made for a Celebration of Kathy's life to be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, in Fargo.
Memorials: The family asks that memorials be sent to the Bethany Nursing Home Foundation, 201 University Drive S., Fargo, ND 58103.
Arrangements were cared for by Legacy Funeral Services in Fargo and Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
