Molfrid Ritzke

May 12, 1917-June 21, 2013

Minot Daily News

Molfrid Kristine Sand was born May 12, 1917, on the family farm near Van Hook, to Carl and Martha (Vestrheim) Sand. She was raised and educated in the Van Hook area and graduated from Van Hook High School in 1935. As a young lady, she worked at the local grocery store and as a housekeeper for a local minister.

On June 29, 1939, Molfrid was united in marriage to the love of her life, Frank Ritzke, at Van Hook. They purchased a farm south of Van Hook and made it their home; she helped Frank with the daily farming activities. In the 1950s, they had to leave their farmstead because of the Garrison Diversion, and moved to Parshall. Molfrid became a homemaker and full-time mother to their daughter.

Molfrid was an amazing and compassionate woman; Frank was a gentleman and she a lady. She was selfless and put the needs of others before her own; always gracious, she never complained. In 2009, Molfrid moved to Oak Grove, Mo., to live with her daughter.

Molfrid loved to bake and was known for her cookies and lefse. She had a passion for gardening and tending her flowers. She enjoyed playing cards, which she continued to the very end.
