Mildred “Marg” Vardsveen

Mildred "Marg" Vardsveen, 89, Flandreau, S.D., formerly of Minot, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Riverview Manor in Flandreau.

Mildred Rose "Marg" Petersen was born March 18, 1923, in Aurelia. She was the daughter of Martin S. and Alice R. (Steele) Petersen. She was raised and educated in Donnybrook.

Mildred married Harold S. Vardsveen on Feb. 15, 1952, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she worked as a credit manager for Northern States Power Co. She retired from there in 1983, and they moved to Phoenix, Ariz.

After Harold passed away in March 1991, Mildred moved to Virginia, where she lived for a short time, and then to Kenyan, Minn., until her move to Flandreau, S.D., in 2009.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot and enjoyed golf and crafts as hobbies.

Surviving family includes: sons, Donald (Dorothy) Vardsveen, Elloree, S.C., Mike (Donna) Vardsveen, Flandreau, and Steve (Jill) Vardsveen, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Lisa (Randy) Comp, Edith (Chris) Cusack, Kevin Osborne, Korrie (Nick) Wallin, Brock Vardsveen, Tessa (Jason) LaQua, Tracy (John) Vogel; John, Brent, and Stacy Vardsveen; and Molly and Ben Barrett; great-grandchildren, Gretchen (Andrew) Garry, Hannah Wallin, Paxton and Parker LaQua, Kelly, Amy, and Michael Vardsveen, Alice, Coen, Penelope and Eva Vogel, Megan Felkel, Hayden McKeown, Alicia and Holley Walsh, Ethan Cusack; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; brothers, Donald and Lynn Petersen; sisters, Dorothy Hulse and Lila Trail; and granddaughter, Trisha Whaley.

Funeral: Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Saturday, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
