Four of the seven applicants for the two open judgeships for the Northwest District have been chosen as finalists, according to the North Dakota Supreme Court.
Two of the finalists already reside in the district, including Robert Martin, the supervising attorney for the Minot office of the North Dakota Public Defenders, and Robin Schmidt, a private attorney in Watford City.
The two other finalists are Cherie Clark, Fargo, an assistant state's attorney for Cass County, and Paul Jacobson, who serves as disciplinary counsel in Bismarck.
There were originally eight applicants, but a Williston attorney withdrew from consideration.
The two chosen to be judges will be chambered in either Williston or Watford City.
